Frozen Over/Repair Update

Bought the refrigerator in 2017. In less than 2 years, the refrigerator coil started freezing over. Defrosted a few times with a hair dryer and by unplugging it. Finally called a repair shop and got it fixed. The repair guy walked in, I told him what was happening, he said it's the defrost fan unit, $99 just for that, never even checked anything and didn't have the part. Part arrives, make appointment. 48 hours prior had to defrost refrigerator, so no food storage capability. Lots of ice in cold storage bags in the garage. The part is installed, $150. He said, "hopefully this is it, because the control panel is hundreds of dollars." I replied, "No it won't be. I'm good for generally 1 repair for appliances. So it will be a new refrigerator that won't be a Whirlpool." From an internet search this IS an ongoing issue that Whirlpool will not acknowledge or change the components they install.

We have had this refrigerator for 2.5 years now and have had to unfreeze it THREE times now. The refrigerator coils will freeze and cause the fridge to not keep cool, causing food to spoil, having to spend time thawing it, and more money to replace the food that we lost. 9 months ago, the lights stopped working in the freezer. Now for the last week we have his very loud humming coming from it. The fact that this is a $3,000 refrigerator and its having issues like this makes me very angry. I should not have to defrost a refrigerator 3 times in 2.5 years.

I bought this whirlpool Refrigerator (Model WRF767SDHZ00 approximately 18 months ago. Since this purchase we have had problems with water flow. I adjusted the main water valve to help reduce the noisy water dispenser but resulted in even slower water flow. Completely gave up on that and accepted the fact it would take almost a full minute to fill coffee pot.
WATER FILTER;
I have changed out the water filter 5 times already. That's an average of a new filter every 3 1/2 months.
ICE MAKER;
Ice maker in freezer will continually stop making ice. The bar will stay up when ice bucket is not full. This will cause ice to stop being made.
LIGHTS;
This was my final straw!! Last week my freezer lights all went out. This morning half my lights in the refrigerator went out.
I have had nothing but problems with this Fridge. So if you are in the market for a great looking Refrigerator that will leave you with disappointment then this is the fridge for you!!

Love it! Bought this last month, has tons of space and storage options. Temps of the fridge and freezer are holding well. Having a dual ice maker has come in quite handy. Really no complaints at all except my freezer handle is loose already.

I have owned this refrigerator since April 2018. I have had approximately 6-8 service calls involving various different problems from condensers freezing over, fans failing, light board replacements, LED failures, etc. We have lost food on a number of occasions. DO NOT BUY this garbage and, if you do, make sure you buy the extended warranty service plan since the service techs will be living in your home.

I am now 2+ years into owning this refrigerator (purchased from Lowes). I continue to regret my purchase. The ice makers are loud, enough so that I alert my overnight guests so that they aren't startled in the middle of the night. Additionally, the water dispenser frequently "sticks" for an extra second or two which causes frequent spills with my kids. However, my major issue is the taste quality of the water and ice cubes. I generally have about 30-45 days of quality tasting water and ice cubes before it smells and becomes undrinkable (filter status still at 75%). For the first year I was buying the recommended filters, but it has become so expensive that I opted for a generic brand to save money. It has not helped or hurt the situation but costs less money. We don't drink any more water than we have for the last 20 years and we changed the hose at installation so there is not reasonable explanation as to why this fridge can't make normal tasting water. We just now have a routine of changing the filter every 30-60 days, dumping all the ice and starting over. I didn't realize the fridge only carried a 1 year warranty so when I contacted Lowes after 1 year they refused to offer any help. Very frustrating!!!

Bought two years ago and similar problems as others - ice buildup underneath the freezer door because of sticky grommet (500k views on youtube fix and a different component to fix but no recall) and now it isn't cooling. Stupid me - I continue to buy WP appliances and continue to see the quality decline. Every appliance from them purchased in last 5 years has had problems within first 18 months, several of them multiple times! Last refrigerator was still running after 18 years and only had to replace a $20 relay. Should have never "upgraded."

I bought this refrigerator about two years ago and it has now frozen up behind the bottom drawer of the refrigerated section twice! First time was JUST out of 12 month warranty. Repairman had to reposition the thermistor. This fixed the problem for 17 months. It now has another block of ice behind the bottom drawer. Repairman said Whirlpool is aware of concern, but doesn't have a fix for this concern. VERY UNHAPPY! All appliances in my kitchen are Whirlpool......at least for the moment. Trying to see what Whirlpool will do for us.

I purchased this Refrigerator/freezer last year. I started to notice that the milk just wasn't cold and medicine was spoiling. I turns out that this product has a history of temperature/fan sensor failures. Mine was no exception. Ice is forming at the bottom of the refrigerator and the top of the refrigerator is about 50 degrees F. A $350.00 repair bill we are back to having cold milk but seriously disappointed with the quality.
The ice dispenser likes to continue dropping ice after you pull the container away. Another poor design feature.

Once while it was still under warranty and again last month which was a $300+ repair and now we are scheduled for another repair (out of pocket) next week. Whirlpool is not taking responsibility for the product since we had not purchased the extended warranty.

Bought this in June of 2017. First repair Nov 2017. Both ice makers stopped working and neither fridge nor freezer was cooling properly. Also had ice build up on back wall of fridge. Took two tech. visits with two days of defrosting in between visits. He said a sensor was installed incorrectly at the factory.
I'm typing this in August of 2019. Same problem again. Defrosting again for two days. This was not a cheap fridge but the quality appears to be lacking. Very disappointed.
I'm hoping the problem will be solved this time, but after reading other reviews it doesn't look good.

I bought this refrigerator in July 2017 and had the first repair visit in June 2018. Stopped cooling with huge ice block formed in the refrigerator cooling unit. Repair tech came out and said it had a bad sensor on the defroster heater and replaced. All good for 5 months and then it happened again. Service call scheduled, vacation day burned, service tech never showed up. Rescheduled service call, another vacation day burned, service tech never showed up. Unplugged fridge and let it defrost on its own. Lost most of my food, had water all over the hardwood floor, but it started cooling again once I turned it back on. Fast forward to July 2019, now two years old and it stops cooling again and is making a growling noise. Service tech called, showed up for the appointment and diagnosed it as a defective defroster heater grid but did not have parts to fix it. 2 weeks later parts came in and service tech returned to install only to discover a sealed system leak that is not repairable. Lost food a third time and dealt with no refrigerator for two weeks.
I always heard that Whirlpool had the best quality. If this is the case then I don't know how people can afford to spend $2,000 every year for a refrigerator. Very Disappointed in the quality of this product. I would not recommend.

As I sit here and write this review, I am staring at the condenser coils that are completely frozen over at the back of the refrigerator behind the shelves (please see attached photo). This refrigerator was purchased in September 2017, less than one year later the refrigerator would not cool (the freezer worked fine) and the side lights would not work. Had the non cooling problem fixed under warranty. The repair technician replaced the mother board and switched some sensors around which he said were not installed correctly at the factory. Now, nearly two years after we purchased this refrigerator, we are having the problem with the coils freezing over.
Our previous refrigerator was a whirlpool. It was purchased in 2001 and is still operating flawlessly (in our garage). I can't begin to tell you how thoroughly disappointed I am with the current unit (whirlpool model :WRF767SDEM01) and if I can't find a solution to this coil freezing problem, will probably rid myself of this unit so that I can find another refrigerator of better quality and reliability. I can guarantee that it will NOT be a Whirlpool product!

The fan totally iced over behind the drawers so we couldn't see it. We can't thaw in the fan box and are just out of warranty so are feeling cheated. Do not buy.

This is a replacement for my larger model that never worked right. Overall and so far I'm happy with the new one. I guess we will wait 4 months to see if it holds up. The other one had to be defrosted or shut off for 2 days every 4 months

My husband and I purchased this fridge from Nebraska Furniture Mart in The Colony, Texas March 2018. The fan went out 3 times in the first year we had it, now we are going through this for a fourth time only now it isn't within the 1 year warranty so are dealing with unprofessional third party warranty companies who have left us without a fridge for a month and still counting. I don't know if this is just a "lemon" of a product as Whirlpool is supposed to be a reliable manufacturer. Regardless, I would not recommend this fridge as the reason we're told it is still not fixed a month after going out is because this particular part is on backorder due to the Whirlpool issue. Consumer be ware.

This is a great fridge; however, it is very noisy. It is so loud that about 2 months after we bought it we had a whirlpool servicer come inspect it because we knew there was no way the sound could be normal. He says all is normal; it's the defrost. Well...2 years in and we have the noisiest defrost and it doesn't work. Every summer the noise starts again and around this time (June or July) we start to notice ice building up. So much ice that the drawers stop closing. I have to manually defrost about twice a year. Not sure if this is all fridges of this model or if we just got the lucky one. Would've been nice if the first servicer would've noticed that the noise is obviously abnormal and offered some solution. We were under warranty so I'm sure he knew he wasn't getting paid and gave us the all clear. Are we the only ones with this problem? Otherwise, great product; but I'd definitely ask around to see if this problem is widespread before purchasing.

Two weeks in and running great. Quite ,cold and plenty of space. In door ice is nice with second ice maker in freezer . Shelves under ice maker in door are a good size holding soda bottles and condiments.Half sliding shelf is very useful for tall items. Middle drawer between the two vegetable drawers is good space for small items including 12oz cans. Large drawer under is great space for large low profile items such as platters.
Freezer is well organized with pizza box storage and middle small storage dividers.
Very happy sofar.
When dilivered the freezer drawer wouldn't close all the way. Repair person came out to fix it and it was a small piece of packing foam that got stuck to the back of the drawer. Easy fix.

I bought this refrigerator about 2 months ago from orville's, At first i thought i had purchase a lemon because water was coming out cloudy so i thought i had a bad filter so i went back to orville's to replace the water filter witch orville,s replaced at no cost to me, so i get back home replace the filter ran water though the filter at least 5 gallons the water was still cloudy so i called orville,s and told them what was going on they said thats not right something is wrong, so the service guy comes out and check the line in the refrigerator the line was fine he ask if he could see my water line that went to the frigerator and he spotted the problem he said the water pressure valve was to high so he lowered the pressure to half on the valve and boom the water was clear as can be,the filter could not handel the pressure all the way up. now the refrigerator is perfect in every way i love whrilpool product.

We bought this refrigerator about two years ago. I like the space available in the refrigerator compartment. I find myself not getting the door completely closed when I casually nudge it to close, so it's important to be deliberate to make sure it completely closes. An alarm will sound after a while to remind you to close it, which works out okay if you hang around in the area long enough to hear it. If you nudge it closed and head out to work, you are out of luck. I suppose this is laziness on my part, but it't the way I often close the door.

No alarm to let you know if freezer door is not shut all the way. No instructions anywhere including customer service as how to remove ice buildup on vents inside and very difficult to get to. The only alarm is when someone opens fridge door while trying to get water out of dispenser.

Purchased the refrigerator 6 months ago. Was very happy until the refrigerator failed and I came home to water all over my floor due to ice melting and the refrigerator not cooling. Have been without a refrigerator for 2 1/2 weeks. Platinum service keeps messing up our service date. Came out 1 day late, diagnosed problem, set up a return appt to fix. I waited 3 hrs for a no show. Still don't have a working fridge. UNRELIABLE SERVICE!!!

Bought the first one in July 2017, coils froze over within the first month and Lowes replaced with the same exact model in Sept 2017. The second one came, same exact problem and now in Jan 2019 Lowes in buying the fridge out cause Whirlpoop dosent know how to fix the problem. The features are great on paper, and that is why we bought it and still nothing really compares, but two with the exact same problem....??? Seems like a simple problem to solve but even the repair guy said to walk away, let lowes buy it out cause whirlpoop will take to long to resolve the issue.

Our refrigerator has been limping along for about 6 months not quite cold enough and ice maker that has broken years ago.
FF Chrismas Eve Day...woke up to a dead fridge and so we went shopping. We picked this Fridge because of size and finish and the well thought out interior. It is beautifully arranged with adjustable shelves and a flexible drawer that you can use for meat, fruit or drinks with a touch of a button, you can change the setting of the content of the drawer.
Dual ice maker!!! are you kidding me? Running out of ice for parties is a thing of the past.
This is not your parent's refrigerator. This is built for today's life moving back to cooking home made meals daily with major food prep done on Sundays...This fridge has the room, shelves and drawers to organize it all and is a beautiful featured appliance of any kitchen.

If there is a definition of a "lemon", this product would fit it. If I could rate this with "zero" stars, I would. I purchased it May 17, 2017. Three repairs (same thing) in the 1-year warranty and I should have known better. My Mother trusted Whirlpool all my life and sang its praises, so I stuck in there. After my husband was hospitalized with toxins from food poisoning after eating something from this refrigerator, I was done. Immediately on his discharge, I marched to my local appliance store and purchased an LG. I loved the features, the dual ice makers. This product has one job: to keep food in its refrigerator portion at a safe temperature. It fails -- miserably. There is a design flaw that repeatedly causes ice to build up at the back behind the drawers (where you can't see it) and slowly kill the fan that circulates cool air to the refrigerator portion. It happens over a few days to a week, so you really don't notice it unless you sit with the doors open and listen for the fan to kick in, or keep a thermometer inside to constantly check the temperature. That was the first 3 repairs, and that was what was wrong with it when I took it out of service yesterday. I have been a loyal Whirlpool/Maytag customer, always wanting to purchase American made whenever possible. This is the LAST product I will ever purchase with those two names on it. When it comes to the safety of the food for my family I will never be able to trust a Whirlpool or Maytag product again.

Ok fridge, received a bad one

We bought this fridge and had nothing but problems. Within 2 weeks of owning it we had the repair man out 3 times. It was one thing after another . The thermal parts weren't working and parts were 2 weeks ou and that was the last straw so we took it back. It's a good fridge style, lots of space. I just feel like this particular fridge we brought home had lots of problems. I didn't like the ice/water dispenser, It was very messy. However, I did love the dual ice maker and all the compartments in the freezer.

1/2 the lights don't work

Bought this less than a year ago. Every once in awhile all the lights go out. Have to unplug refrigerator and plug it back in to make them work again. Now we have a total of 5 lights that do not work. Not cool for the amount of money we spent on this.

I bought a Whirlpool French Door refrigerator Model# WRF767SDHZ00 (Sl# K81215231) from Lowes on 7/26/2018. The refrigerator worked fine for a month and then got noisier, the Vegetable tray in the refrigeration section started freezing stuff and on 10/22/2018 the icemaker on the door stopped working. We had a protection plan through Lowes and the warranty on the unit from Whirlpool. Called Lowes for warranty repair as they said they would help us on this since the unit was under their protection plan. The technician came and figured out that the HV board and heater was the issue and needed replacement. After two weeks Whirlpool informed the Tech that they no longer make the HV board and the unit needs to be replaced with a new one, but nobody remembered to include us in this discussion. After the decision, neither Lowes nor Whirlpool were interested in honoring the decision in a timely manner, we had our Thanksgiving holidays without a refrigerator (at one point, the response from one of the supervisor we got was you can return the unit back to store and get your money back). Called Lowes and Whirlpool to express my disappointment in a very calm manner and also expressed to them the difficulties we had during the holiday period. Our words only got sympathetic hearing from each of the rep on the phone and each of them promised an escalated action in two hours to two days but never got anything resolved from any off them, talking to Supervisors and managers made no difference. We had bought this due to the fact it had two icemakers, Whirlpool quality should be good, and trusted Lowes would handle our issues as we paid for the protection plan too. Sadly, this made no difference. Supporting a "Made is USA " shows that our customer service and quality is no better than any other company.
Thanks to Lowes and Whirlpool in their effort. As I write this review, I am still waiting for the next two days action promised by Whirlpool and the two hours response promised by Lowes on 11/21. I am also curious to see if they are going to tell me a reason, how they cannot have parts for a new model of refrigerator they sell especially an important part like an HV board. Meanwhile, I am going to wait and see how these two companies are going to fulfill their promise ! Hopefully, Whirlpool/Lowes will give me a speedy resolution.

Lights, top ice maker, and water filter

I bought this product 10 months ago. Since then, the freezer section light no longer works. Recently, the side wall lights in the refrigerator section have stopped working.
The top icemaker freezes up inside the door and will not allow ice to come down.
The water filter has been changed several times and the quality of the water is extremely poor.

I have had so many problems with the plastic surrounding the shelving inside the refrigerator shelving and inside the door shelving. It keeps cracking and breaking and all the items fall to the floor which has cause some injuries to my feet. I do not over stuff OR overload the shelves. I only purchase groceries for myself and husband. This is the worst product I have ever purchased. I sent a faxed complaint before but never received a response. I have purchased new shelves but they are very expensive and I really dont think I should have to do this everytime. I have to now glue and flex tape the other shelves that are breaking/cracking.I have never had any problems like this with any other refrigerator that I have purchased from other companies. I SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Avoid this unit! It has serious defects. Ours is being replaced by Whirlpool after 14 months. Does not cool, 7 service visits. It can't be repaired.

We bought this appliance to replace a 20 year old side by side that was failing. We explored many options and shopped Labor Day Sales and got a great deal. WE LOVE THIS FRENCH DOOR FRIDGE! The space is great and the 2 ice makers are super as we can stop the big one when we don't need extra ice.
